Diverse modifications to pickup trucks – Part 3: Three-door models with high roofs as part of pickup

Time:2026-06-10Author: Mengtu Auto Parts

The three-door rear cover for pickup trucks is a modification product introduced in recent years, maintaining the classic high-top design of standard pickup cargo beds while incorporating numerous innovative manufacturing techniques. For example, the unfolding effect of the European wing, the overall assembly process, and so on.

The original pickup truck's cargo bed top cover is a monolithic rear panel made of double-layer cold-rolled steel plate, identical to the vehicle's standard components. Its manufacturing process mirrors that of conventional automotive parts, involving both putty primer and topcoat applications.Due to its integral design with a large cover, the product is bulky and heavy, posing significant challenges during transportation.Additionally, the windows on both sides of this high-top cover adopt a sliding-type design, which proves somewhat inadequate in certain usage scenarios.

To address challenges in transportation and usage scenarios, and inspired by certain modified products, the three-door rear cover was developed. To further emphasize personalization, the three-door rear cover has been significantly enhanced, highlighting its rugged design and outdoor versatility. For example, the rear cover features sharply defined contours, an extended sliding groove, and a top-mounted additional horizontal strip.

Additionally, since the three-door rear cover is an assembled component, its packaged volume is significantly smaller than that of a fully integrated rear cover, making transportation more convenient.

This product does have its drawbacks: it is available only in the standard black color, requires additional sealing to prevent leaks, and must be removed during annual vehicle inspections in certain regions.

However, as a pickup truck model featuring a high roof, the three-door design effectively enhances cargo space utilization, protects vehicle contents, and caters to a wider range of driving scenarios.

Although the three-door rear cover has a lower adoption rate than the roll-up lid, its introduction has significantly expanded the range of pickup truck customization options. The diverse modifications of pickup trucks collectively form the culture of pickup trucks.
